Biosphere And Hydrosphere: Meaning And Impact

Biosphere And Hydrosphere - What Do They Mean And Why They Are Important For Us?

Biosphere and hydrosphere play important roles in our lives, and yet, a large segment of the population is unaware of the terminologies. Let’s begin by understanding what these are. And, then we can discuss how to protect them.

Biosphere And Hydrosphere Definition And Importance

In the simplest term, the land and the atmosphere of the earth, or any planet actually, is the biosphere. Hydrosphere refers to the water bodies on earth. The seas, oceans, rivers, lakes, ponds, all the places with water belongs to the hydrosphere. Together they form the earth, the planet we are living in.

Turning The Biosphere And Hydrosphere Clean And Green

Keeping our urban areas clean has become a major challenge for us in this century. Domestic, industrial and agricultural wastes compete vehemently for spaces in the biosphere and hydrosphere. Detergents and fertilizers flood the water bodies, refuse clogs the drainages, and the air is polluted. Agencies find it a herculean task to ensure cleanliness in our cities.

This unfortunate situation, however, need not be the norm. There is hope yet. Here are some ways we can employ in tackling the problem of pollution and waste in our cities, and the world as a unit:

Begin By Planting Trees

We have endlessly harped on about the benefits of having a tree close to you. The carbon dioxide and carbon(IV)oxide emitted by human activities and metabolism gather in the atmosphere and come back to wage war against us. However, the good news is that trees “breathe” these gases in, and produce oxygen, which is safe for us. Trees also bring a natural, serene look to an area. They are good for ornamental purposes, and staying under a tree on a hot afternoon is a positively indescribable experience!

Retire Your Old Cars

For the most part, we focus on the physical eyesore as the only filth, but these ones do minimal damage compared to the rickety cars on our roads. Of great concern are the wrecked, beat up automobiles that flood our cities day in, day out. Honestly, these vehicles should be taken off the roads, whether the owners feel disobliged or not.

Let’s Cooperate With Each Other

If there ever was any method to curb filth, it’s this! While many people work tirelessly to clean up the environment, some indifferent filth generators just go right ahead and litter the places we’re trying to keep clean. I’m sure you’ve been in those shoes, where someone treads on the floor you just swept and mopped. If we all join hands together to clear all the physical litters on the streets, we’ll have a sparkling society in no time.

Let Us Form Waste Management Departments And Urge The Government To Take Steps

Many towns, especially in developing societies, still lack functional waste-management agencies. If the government could constitute, equip and fund these agencies, they’ll be able to carry out their duties.

We Need Strict Laws To Ensure Better Environment

Laws should also be made and enforced against violators of the city’s “Pollution Code”. For example, every individual should be made responsible for his immediate environments, such as his home or work area. Organizations should be held responsible for the cleanliness–or lack of same–of their premises. If heavy sanctions are imposed, many will be forced to comply or spend their profits on fines and trying to escape jail.
